North Hertfordshire and East Herts Councils award joint waste and recycling contract

A joint contract for waste, recycling and street cleansing was awarded at a meeting of North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Cabinet and East Herts Council’s (EHC) Executive last night (16).

The contract will start in May 2018 and the name of the successful bidder will be announced after the required 10 day standstill period.

Grant support for community group gets young people active

North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Southern Rural Committee has awarded a grant of £1,350 to the Knebworth Youth Project (KYP), at a meeting last week (5th October).

The long running project will use the grant to fund activities and materials used during sessions for the next 2 years.

Vandalism stops play on Royston tennis court

A well used local community tennis court has been mindlessly vandalised. The damage to the Studlands Rise court in Royston was discovered during an inspection by North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) on 26 September.

Hot oil had been poured over the tennis court, damaging the surface. The court, which has been at the same site for over 20 years, is a well used community facility that is very popular with families. It is open all year round, seven days a week and is free to use.

Consultation on Council Tax Reduction Scheme now open

A consultation on the way the Council Tax Reduction scheme works in North Hertfordshire has formally begun.

Every year North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) has to decide whether to change the Council Tax Reduction scheme for working age applicants in its area. This year the Council has decided that some minor changes should be made to bring the Council Tax Reduction scheme in line with the changes made by Central Government in Housing Benefit and Universal Credit.

Online services unavailable on Saturday 14 October due to maintenance

Stoptober, the 28 day stop smoking challenge from Public Health England, is back from 1st October and North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) is encouraging smokers across the district to get involved.

Stoptober is the biggest mass quit attempt in the country and thousands of people take part every year. This health driven initiative offers a range of free support including an app, daily emails, Facebook Messenger and encouragement from the Stoptober online community on Facebook.

Serial fly-tipper sentenced to 10 months in Prison by Cambridge Crown Court

A 25 year old man from Stevenage was sentenced to 10 months in prison yesterday (28 September) after pleading guilty to five counts of fly-tipping household waste across Hertfordshire.
