NHDC awards grant to Strathmore Fun Club

North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Hitchin Area Committee has awarded a grant of £2,000 to Hitchin Fun Club*; a popular breakfast and after school club that provides low cost child care to children during term time. The club is open to children who attend Strathmore, Ickleford, Oughton, Our Lady’s and Wilshere Dacre schools in Hitchin.

Letchworth dementia club and North Hertfordshire Museum hold special events to mark World Alzheimer’s Day

A local club that gives people living with dementia the opportunity to take part in enjoyable activities is marking World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September with a special Open Day.

The Kingfisher Club in Letchworth, one of four provided by the Howard Cottage Housing Association in North Herts, will host a number of free fun events and will be providing afternoon teas. Anyone living with Alzheimers or dementia, and their carers are welcome. Herts Careline will also be in attendance at the Open Day.

Grants aplenty for Baldock community groups

NHDC prosecutes Letchworth man for fly-tipping

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) is reminding residents to ensure household waste is disposed of appropriately by an authorised person, as failure to do so can lead to a criminal prosecution.

On Friday 24 August, at Stevenage Magistrates Court, Mr Alan Michael Boyd of Green Lane, Letchworth Garden City pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to comply with his duty to dispose of waste appropriately in contravention of section 34 (2A) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

NHDC allocates funding towards a non vehicular bridge and all weather hockey pitch in Royston

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) has allocated funding towards the cost of a non vehicular bridge over the A505 in Royton and for all weather Hockey Pitch on Royston Heath, subject to the projects securing funding from other parties.

Landlord prosecuted for fire safety failings at tenant’s property

On Friday 3 August at Stevenage Magistrates Court, Mr Lawrence Connors of Hitchin Road, Arlesey pleaded guilty to failing to comply with fire safety regulations in a rented property.

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) brought the prosecution under the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006.

On 6 November 2017 a fire occurred at 54 Chiltern View, Letchworth – a property which was rented to several tenants by Mr Connors. The incident had the potential to cause serious harm but nobody was injured.

Smiles all round as NHDC wins Green Flag Awards for its parks

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) is celebrating after five of its parks and nature reserves have retained their Green Flag status, as part of a national award scheme.

The prestigious Green Flag Awards, which are run by Keep Britain Tidy, recognise the best parks and open spaces in the UK. Sites are judged to ensure spaces are managed to meet the needs of their local communities and maintained to a high standard.

Hitchin pool to celebrate 80th birthday

Hitchin Outdoor Pool will be celebrating its 80th birthday in style with a day of fun-filled free activities on Saturday 11 August.

The pool had two official openings, the first was on 30 April 1938 and the second took place on 2 July 1938 and was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.
