Baldock Town Bowls Club is bowled over by grant from NHDC for youth programme

Baldock Town Bowls Club is celebrating after being awarded a grant to run an exciting new bowling programme with pupils from Baldock’s Knights Templar School.*

The £1500 was awarded by North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Baldock and District Committee on 4 December. This youth focused initiative aims to get more young people involved in the sport and with the hope of engaging up to 18 young people each year, over a 3 year period.

Councils launch scheme to keep Hertfordshire residents warm in their homes

A new scheme that provides free or discounted household improvements to help residents stay warm in their homes has been launched by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) in partnership with North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) and 9 other district and borough councils in Hertfordshire.

The scheme is being funded by energy companies who are required to promote energy efficiency measures that aim to reduce carbon emissions and reduce the costs of heating a home.

Hitchin Hackspace are flushed with success after NHDC grants £5000 for new headquarters

An innovative community organisation that gives local people access to futuristic creative technologies and crafts, has received a £5000 grant from North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Hitchin Area Committee last week (5 December).

Hitchin Hackspace, currently based at a hut in Ransoms Recreation Ground, will use the grant to renovate a disused toilet block at Bancroft Recreation Ground and turn it into their new headquarters.

Bins collections affected by cold weather

Update - 10:00am 13 Dec

Collections are returning to normal across North Hertfordshire. All crews have gone out this morning and any incomplete collections from the past couple of days are being caught up. Please leave your bins out for collection as normal.

Update - 4:50pm 12 Dec

Once again a few areas did not receive a collection today. If your bin wasn't collected, please leave it out again tomorrow and we will attempt to collect it again.

Grant success for community projects in Southern Rural

Four community projects were awarded funding at a meeting of North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC’s) Southern Rural Area Committee last week*.

The Committee awarded more than £2,000 in support of a wide range of projects that will benefit communities in towns and villages across the rural areas of the district. The grants were issued in response to applications made by Parish Councils, sports and social clubs.

Young entrepreneurs in Letchworth from the ages of 11 – 18 are invited to attend an event at Howard Memorial Hall on Tuesday 12 December, to share their ideas for a business project as part of a new youth-led initiative.

The successful idea will be taken forward and the individuals will get the support they need to turn their ideas into a sustainable business, which generates positive benefits for the local community.

North Hertfordshire Museum is readying itself to launch an exciting new exhibition of Shell Oil advertising posters on 2 December.

The ‘Discovering Britain: Vintage Posters from the Shell Heritage Art Collection’ exhibition spans advertising campaigns from the 1920s to the 1950s and reflects a diversity of artistic style, while celebrating British landscape painting.

Letchworth Park Run – appeal for volunteers

Local volunteers praised at North Hertfordshire’s Civic Service

Last Sunday (19 November) saw North Hertfordshire’s annual Civic Service pay tribute to local charities that dedicate their time to help others.

This special service took place at the Parish Church of St Faith’s in Hitchin. Led by Reverend Melanie Crowley, there were readings by Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Dr Helen Hanbury and the Chairman’s Consort, Mrs Maureen Millard.
